Portfolio Rebalancing

If you have a pension or investment plan, you will often invest in a selection of different funds, often referred to as a ‘Portfolio’.

The reason for this is to spread your investment between different asset classes and investment styles. In doing this you are not ‘putting your eggs in one basket’. A good portfolio will be constructed from best of breed individual funds, managed by top fund managers. The asset mix will be based on your tolerance to investment risk.

Over time your portfolio will change shape. The reason for this is that the funds will perform differently to one another. In a simple example, a portfolio comprising 50% equities and 50% corporate bonds may change over a short time to 55% equities and 45% bonds. The resulting portfolio will now carry a higher investment risk than you originally wanted to take.

This illustrates that from time to time a portfolio should be reviewed to ensure that your tolerance to risk is maintained. The way we do this is by a process known as ‘Rebalancing’.

The good news is that we can do this for you. Often the process can be automated so that every 6 months (for example), your investment is rebalanced for you.

At Professional Wealthcare, we like to look after your pensions and investments in the best possible way. If you would like to have your portfolio rebalanced or reviewed in any other way, please contact us.

Please remember, that investment returns may go down as well as up.
