Firstly; a simple mental arithmetic exercise
- At what age do you intend or expect to retire?
- What age are you now?
- Subtract your age now from your retirement age.
- Multiply the result by 12.
- Write down your answer.
If like most people you receive your income monthly, your answer is the number of paydays you have remaining until retirement. Next month you will have 1 less; next year you will have 12 less. Perhaps you are seeing that the time to act is now!
It can sometimes be very useful to look at a situation from a different perspective. The object of the above exercise is to help you to see your personal situation clearly. It’s all very well being advised by someone else that you need to seriously plan for your future. But when the need is securely rooted in your own thinking, you are far more likely to want to take action and make sure that you have good plans in place.
